About my art
For as long as I can remember myself, I’ve been fascinated by the power of nature. The beauty and elegance of the sea captured my imagination in so many ways. I don’t know whether it was the natural ebb and flow, the unique colours, or the myths and tales associated with it. Perhaps it was all of these and more that captured my imagination at an early age and somehow endured in such a way that I’ve never moved away from it in my mind.
Stone Stories
Every piece that I create is unique as every natural stone is. Every stone is handpicked from remote beaches around Greece. Each stone is selected based on its round or oval shape. Then they are brought to my home-studio in Athens, cleaned vigorously and left outdoors to dry before the creative and fun part of painting begins!
Bio
Sandrine Maffre is a contemporary French-Greek artist with a passion for exploring the meaning, aesthetics and spiritual nature of mandala symbols. As a lifelong creative who is inspired by the natural world around her, Sandrine draws inspiration from a variety of different creative spheres. By using natural sea stones as her canvas, she effortlessly blends contemporary colours and dot painting techniques with the age-old style and meaning of mandala patterning. The result is a fresh take on traditional art that allows the viewer to explore extra layers of depth, meaning and spirituality like never before.
