Sandrine Maffre

Sandrine Maffre is a contemporary French-Greek artist with a passion for exploring the meaning, aesthetics and spiritual nature of mandala symbols. As a lifelong creative who is inspired by the natural world around her, Sandrine draws inspiration from a variety of different creative spheres.

By using natural sea stones as her canvas, she effortlessly blends contemporary colours and dot painting techniques with the age-old style and meaning of mandala patterning. The result is a fresh take on traditional art that allows the viewer to explore extra layers of depth, meaning and spirituality like never before.

As is the case with many inspirational creatives, Sandrine’s story took an unexpected turn when she least expected it. While her childhood was spent in the company of a creative mother with a passion for painting on canvas, her own life was directed more by a love for the sea than anything else. Everything changed and realigned into a different state of focus in March 2020, when the first lockdown began in Greece.

This unprecedented change in the society in which she was living, prompted a creative fire to come to life inside of her. From that day forth she has worked to evolve her dot painting technique and to create handmade pieces that bridge the gaps between the natural world and age-old spirituality while also making connections with contemporary art. The result is a new approach to life that has already seen her included in a recently published book with the 100 Greek Contemporary Artists, published by Art Way and Ostria Publications.

When not creating in her home-studio, Sandrine can be found in the heart of the family home where she is a loving wife and working mother of three children. Through all of the recent changes the world has undergone, her life remains one which is driven by a passion and unique connection with the sea.
