About the Artist

Sandrine Maffre is a contemporary French–Greek artist whose work explores the symbolic, aesthetic, and spiritual language of mandalas through the meditative practice of dot painting.

A lifelong creative deeply inspired by the natural world, Sandrine draws from multiple creative spheres — from ancient pattern traditions and sacred geometry to contemporary colour palettes and tactile materiality. Her work reflects a quiet dialogue between nature, rhythm, and inner stillness.

Using natural sea stones as well as handcrafted cast stones, Sandrine transforms each form into a contemplative object. Through layered dots, intuitive mandala structures, and carefully selected colours, she blends contemporary expression with the timeless spiritual meaning of mandala symbolism. The result is a body of work that invites the viewer to slow down, connect, and explore deeper layers of presence and meaning.

A Turning Point

Like many creative journeys, Sandrine’s path unfolded unexpectedly.
Raised by a creative mother with a passion for painting on canvas, she was surrounded by art from an early age. Yet for many years, her own life was guided primarily by a deep connection to the sea — a constant source of grounding, inspiration, and rhythm.

In 2020, during the first lockdown in Greece, everything shifted. The sudden pause of everyday life sparked an inner creative awakening. What began as a quiet return to making soon evolved into a dedicated artistic practice.

From that moment on, Sandrine immersed herself in developing her dot painting technique, creating handmade works that bridge the natural world with ancient spiritual traditions, while remaining firmly rooted in a contemporary artistic language.

Artistic Practice & Recognition

Through patience, repetition, and intention, Sandrine’s work has grown into a distinct visual and emotional signature. Each piece is created slowly and mindfully, honouring both the material and the moment in which it is made.

Her evolving approach has led to her inclusion in the book “100 Greek Contemporary Artists”, published by Art Way and Ostria Publications — a milestone that reflects the growing resonance of her work within the contemporary art landscape.

Beyond the Studio

When not creating in her home-studio in Athens, Sandrine can be found at the heart of her family life, as a devoted wife and working mother of three children.

Through all the changes the world has undergone in recent years, her life and practice remain anchored by an enduring relationship with the sea — a presence that continues to shape her work, her workshops, and the philosophy behind The Dotting Atelier.
